Alcian blue staining method to visualize the lymph intravascular Bonghan duct in the rabbit lymph vessel

Abstract

|
Despite the modern anatomical point of view on a lymph vessel that it has no floating structure except lymph valves, our previous work demonstrated that there was a threadlike structure, lymph intravascular Bonghan duct (LIBHD) inside lymph vessel using Janus green B (JGB) staining. Here we present a new staining method using Alcian blue, hyaluronic acid staining dye, to clearly visualize the existence of LIBHD in rabbit lymph vessels. We could take LIBHD from large lymphatic vessels around rabbit caudal vena cava. The examination on specimen by hematoxyline and eosin staining as well as Masson’s trichrome staining demonstrated that LIBHD was a new floating structure as previously reported in our earlier work.
